There’s more today on those devastating internal documents from the Heartland Institute; Heartland has confirmed that they were mistakenly emailed by a staff member.

The Heartland Institute has confirmed in a prepared statement that it mistakenly emailed its board materials to an anonymous third party - confirming the source of the documents released here on the DeSmogBlog yesterday.

Heartland then goes on allege that one of the documents (the Climate Strategy) is a fake.

The DeSmogBlog has reviewed that Strategy document and compared its content to other material we have in hand. It addresses five elements:

The Increased Climate Project Fundraising material is reproduced in and confirmed by Heartland’s own budget.

The “Global Warming Curriculum for K-12 Classrooms” is also a Heartland budget item and has been confirmed independently by the author, Dr. David Wojick.

The Funding for Parallel Organizations; Funding for Selected Individuals Outside Heartland are both reproduced and confirmed in the Heartland budget. And Anthony Watts has confirmed independently the payments in Expanded Climate Communications.

Consider, then address specific arguments and ideas put forth by others, intelligently, rather than taking the easy route and attacking them personally. A "personal attack" is defined as directly or indirectly insulting another user (or group of users), oftentimes by name-calling, labeling, making sweeping generalizations or putting words into their mouth.
Examples
    •    "You are a racist..."
    •    "Your ideas are idiotic..."
    •    "[insert political affiliation]s are stupid."
Warning that "all comments with name calling will be deleted. Comments with party names altered to insults (teabaggers, libtards, repukes) will be deleted."
Name calling as :Obozo, moron, Obumbo ect. will also be deleted.  Use The Governor, Rick Perry, Perry, The President, Barrack Obama, Obama.

The topic is not whether the seed is good or bad or even my opinion or "logic".

Good article.

Whatever the argument about global warming; at the end of the day it isn't OK to pollute the environment for the same reasons it's not OK to pee in the pool.

they say part of the package released was a fake, so they accidently sent this to a third party ideologue who hated heartland and decided in his windfall of getting these emails, that he should take the time to fake a detailed plan and insert it in the batch of real emails and release them.

hmmmm either they are the most unlucky people on the planet, or they are full of crap. I am leaning towards the later.

anyways article is lite on details if you dont click through. This details how koch sucking republicans are going to try to brain wash your kids in elementary school to disbelieve in the science of AGW. They really would destroy this country for a dollar.

By the time today's schoolkids are old enough to make actual decisions on this stuff, the debate will be over because we'll be out of oil, and we'll be frantically trying to rein in the temperature so our crops don't fail every summer because photosynthesis doesn't function above 104 F, and we'll be bailing out Manhattan and Miami and every other coastal habitation in the world because the sea level has risen ten feet and is destroying billions in real estate.

These people are super-@!$%#in-stupid. Reality will be along just about immediately to refute their utter nonsense.

Don Overton.I read the article. Let me ask if I understand. A far right think tank was thinking up lies to support their cause and their lies were emailed to someone who leaked them to the public. If this is true, I am not shocked. Now they blowing @!$%# out to recover. Can they recover?

Can they recover?

Well as long as their corporate masters, the Koch brothers still fund them, and as long as conservative media put their "experts" out there and cite it as credible, they will never die in conservative bizarro world.

The people that believe that global warming is a left wing conspiracy don't care about this. Facts are not their tender. Fear and ridicule don't require facts.

No surprise to me as the Koch Brothers are willing to lie to the public on anything from "clean" coal(no such thing), to high fructose corn syrup, to mercury in fish.

Maybe a little off topic here but has anyone seen the TV commercial by some Energy consortium that makes a claim that Canadian Tar Sand oil will be sold to US consumers? They push fracking in a offhanded way as well. The commercial features a tall blond woman. Every time I see it on TV I yell out "That's a lie." Drives my dog crazy but I just can't help myself.

I've seen that ad. It was preceded by several others with the same spokesperson pushing natural gas as "safe!"

The first time I heard it I couldn't believe my ears. When it came on again I paid attention and sure enough, the bull@!$%# about pumping that stuff "for Americans" was exactly what she said.

That stuff isn't even good enough to be refined into gas, so that's bull@!$%# right there. It's also going to be sold on the world market as anyone who understands these things knows, so it is false for two reasons.

YES!!! Mal seconds LRD... It is an excellent seed, Don!!!

These people will do anything for a buck.

Integrity is not something they value.

On another note, LRD... It sounds like Scott is in hot water... ;-)

BTW my fellow canine blog buddy... I haven't seen you on any of my last three articles...

I'm sorry, pup! I read your articles, but, haven't been in the mood to respond to anyone on NV much. I just had surgery on one of my paws and I'm hibernating a bit. I hope to be back in good form by April for bicycling season.
